Bruce L.
Haines
April 1, 1946 – June 2, 2026
Bruce L. Haines of Independence, Missouri, passed into eternal glory on June 2, 2026. Born on April 1, 1946, at Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Aurora, Colorado, and lived a life marked by faithful service, deep love for family, and an unwavering commitment to Jesus Christ.
A 1964 graduate of Roscommon High School, Bruce went on to play college football at Alma College before earning his Master's degree in Social Work from Michigan State University. He dedicated his career to the youth of Michigan, spending decades in service to others through the state's social work system, a calling that reflected the man he was at his core. He retired early , a milestone well-earned.
In October 1999, Bruce was united in marriage to the love of his life, Debra Brantner. Their marriage was one for the ages, a beautiful partnership built on faith, friendship and devotion. Together, they traveled the country, worshipped alongside their church family, and visited as many National Parks as they could. They cherished exploring the beauty of Michigan together, especially the breathtaking fall color tours in the Upper Peninsula that became a beloved tradition. Above all, they poured their hearts into their children and grandchildren, cherishing every moment spent loving and doting on the generations that followed them. From the day Debra went home to heaven, Bruce carried her absence like a quiet ache. He spoke of her, thought of her, and lived every remaining day looking forward to the reunion he longed for. Fourteen months later, he went home too.
Bruce was an ordained priest in the Church of Christ (Temple Lot). His faith was not a Sunday practice, it was the foundation of everything he did.
Bruce is survived by his four daughters, Lisa Herrera (Ishmael), Jill Bolt (Rick), Hilary Haines, and Jenni Lomonte (Jason); two sons, John Vogel and Jason Vogel; 11 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Debra, his parents Kenneth and June Haines, and his precious grandbaby Stella.
Bruce was a wonderful father, a devoted husband, and a man who gave generously of himself to his family, his church community, and his faith. One of Bruce's greatest gifts was his sense of humor. He'd get that glint in his eye and a smirk on his face, and before long that big belly laugh would roll out of him, the kind of laugh that was absolutely contagious. He carried that joy with him until his very last days. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
