Leroy Brungardt

LeRoy Francis Brungardt, 76, of Independence passed away on April 10, 2013.
Born October 4, 1936, in Gorham, Kansas, he grew up in Victoria, Kansas with three sisters and two brothers who have remained extremely close despite living in three states. He was a valued employee for several companies, working as a driver for Pepsi, Hardees, Anheuser Busch, Centropolis, and Ruan. He was a familiar face and volunteer for the VFW Post 1000. LeRoy valued family and friends, hard work, home-cooked food, a good poker game, and Jayhawk basketball. As the cornerstone of the family, his home was the gathering place for holidays, fish fries, hog roasts, and many other celebrations. You didn’t need an invitation to visit….anyone who came in the back door would be welcomed with a beer, a meal, and a smile. LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, one son, William, and brother in law Walter.
He is survived by his wife Janet, his daughters, Teri (Terry) and Brenda (Jeramy); sons Mike (Stacy); Melvin (Elena) Lewis, Jim (Tina); brothers Vitis (Gladys), Hubert (Shirley), sisters Marie (Frank), Teckla, and Laura; 17 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, and too many close friends to count.
Our family is indebted to Pam Benne for her gift of taking care of LeRoy during his final days so he could die at home.
A burial ceremony will be held at noon on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens, 18301 Salisbury Rd, Independence, MO (Salisbury Road East of 291 Highway). A celebration of LeRoy’s life will be held at Jan and LeRoy’s home immediately following the burial ceremony until 6 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Kansas City Hospice House, 9221 Ward Parkway, Suite 100, Kansas City, MO 64114. www.kchospice.org.
