Brian P. Buchanan, 47, Colorado Springs, CO, formerly of Independence, MO, passed away April 12, 2013 after a relentless battle with Multiple Myeloma. Services will be 10 am, Sat., April 20 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055; interment at Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Friday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the Emma Buchanan Education Fund, c/o Kim Buchanan, Chase Bank, 7390 Duryea Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80923 or the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, 383 Main Ave., 5th Floor, Norwalk, CT 06851. Brian was born Dec. 24, 1965 in Independence, MO. He graduated from Truman High School in the Class of 1984 where he played football and baseball. He attended Mizzou before earning a Bachelors degree in Psychology from CMSU, where he also played baseball. Brian worked for the California Casualty Insurance Co. where he began as a sales rep in 1995 and worked his way up to his current position of Assistant Vice President of Customer Service. He loved fishing, camping, the Mizzou Tigers, the Chiefs and the Royals. He also loved to cook. Brian was preceded in death by his mother Meredith Shaw and biological father Charlie Buchanan. He is survived by his wife of sixteen years Kim Buchanan and daughter Emma Buchanan, of the home; father Donald Shaw; sister Lori Blomquist, both of Independence, MO; grandmother Mary Lou Buchanan, Blue Springs, MO; nephews Nick and Phillip Lamanno and niece Meredith Blomquist.
