Charles R. Buckner, 81, of Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at Kansas City Hospice House. Memorial Services for Mr. Buckner will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 20, 2012, at Northern Boulevard United Methodist Church, 1800 South Northern Boulevard, Independence, MO, 64052. Visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. immediately preceding the service, at the church. There will be a private inurnment at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO at a later date.
Charles was born on January 3, 1931, in Linneus, MO to parents George and Effie “Doll” (Grimes) Buckner. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany during that time. Charles was employed by Amoco Oil Company for 32 years as a gasoline transport driver, and retired from Sugar Creek in 1993. Charles and his wife, Marjorie, enjoyed life traveling in their RV. In 1997 they moved to Apache Junction, AZ, where they lived for 12 years before returning to Independence.
Charles loved creating miniatures in his workshop, but most of all, he loved the time spent with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Lois Gibson and Hazel Palmer; and brother Cecil Buckner. Charles is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Marjorie; son Jerry (Twila) of Blue Springs, MO; daughters Joyce Cox (Dennis) of Hamilton, MO, and Peggy McCulley (Gary) of Independence, MO; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. The Family suggests contributions to Kansas City Hospice House or The American Lung Association.
