Dorothy Marguerite (Singleton) Buford, of Independence, MO left this earth to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at the age of 92. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 5, 2008 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time Friday at the chapel. Donations may be made to Northcare Hospice. Dorothy was born March 7, 1916 in Independence, MO to Archie Carl and Victoria Bradley Singleton. She was a lifetime resident of Jackson County residing her entire married life in Sugar Creek. She graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1934 and had worked several years at Sears & Roebuck. Her marriage to Charles Matthew Buford took place on September 19, 1937 and continued until his passing in 1986. No children resulted from this union. Dorothy was active in many social and civic groups throughout her life including: the O.E.S. Chapter #436 on Mt. Washington/Independence, MOMA’s organization of Sugar Creek, serving on the Jackson County Election Boards in which she received a 50 years service award from the State of Missouri and being a active member of the Carlisle Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charlie, a brother, Edwin Singleton and a sister, Florence Singleton Roach. She leaves nieces, nephews and friends to mourn and remember her.
