Alford Raymond “Sach” Bukaty
Alford Raymond Bukaty, age 80, died quietly on January 18, 2010 while a resident of The Groves �" Rosewood in Independence, MO. Ray was born on March 31, 1929 in Kansas City, KS to Rose (Washick) Bukaty and Stanley J. Bukaty. The family moved to Sugar Creek, MO where Ray met and married Alberta Kobe in 1950. Ray and Alberta Bukaty were happily married for 59 years. They raised five children in Sugar Creek and attended St. Cyril’s Catholic Church where Ray served as usher for many years. Raymond was a wonderful husband and dedicated father. He shared his love of fly fishing, hunting, gardening, and cooking with his family.
Ray was a Sargeant in the US Army during the Korean War from 1951-1952, participating in the Chosin Reservoir Campaign. At that time, he was wounded and sent to Japan for rehabilitation. He was a decorated war Veteran.
Ray was employed at the former Schlitz Brewery, the Kansas City Star Newspaper and Kansas City Power and Light as a machinist.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rose and Stanley Bukaty and his sister Rose Ann Powers. Loving family members surviving are his wife, Alberta Bukaty; brother Stanley M. Bukaty (wife Phyllis); children: Marcy Shutts (husband Ric), Cathy Ewing (husband Jerry), Raymond Bukaty (wife Margie), Carolyn Minckler (husband Scott), and Chris Bukaty (wife Sonja); nine grandchildren: Kendra Shutts, Brian Peak, Jessica Farmer, Zachary and Caitlyn Bukaty, Logan, Ethan and Chris Jr. Bukaty, and Joseph Kaufman; and two great-grandchildren: Broderick Farmer and Mia Bella Huntington.
Visitation will be held at St. Cyril’s Catholic Church, 11231 Chicago, Sugar Creek, MO on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Cyril’s Catholic Church on Monday, Jan. 25 at 10:00 AM followed by burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either Grandma’s Alzheimer’s Fund or the Frank Kobe Scholarship Fund (St. Mary’s High School) both c/o Truman Heartland Community Foundation, Commerce Bank Building 300 N Osage, Independence, MO 64050.
