Byrd Conant Burcham, II, 95, Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2012. Born January 9, 1917 in Kingston, MO and was named Paul Melbern Burcham. After he became an adult he changed his name to match his father’s. He graduated from High School in 1935. During WWII he worked for North American Aviation in Kansas City, KS where the B-25 bombers were built. During that time he won $500 for first place in the suggestion contest. He also won the 3rd and 4th prizes. Byrd later worked for U.S. Safety Service Co. in the tool and die department. He retired in 1982 and was very proud of having a record of never being late or absent for work.
Byrd was preceded in death by his parents B.C. and Julia (Mayes) Burcham; three brothers, Roy, Ray and Col. Lloyd Burcham, USAF,RET.
Survivors include his son Byrd (Chip) Burcham of Independence; daughter, Alicia Brush of Gardner, KS and two grandchildren; sisters, Katherine McHone of Virginia Beach, VA, Ruth Gorrell of Garnett, KS, and Julie Lo Juidice and husband Robert of Tempe, AZ and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and family.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 11, 2012 at The Community Room at The Groves; 1515 W. White Oak, Independence, MO. The family will receive friends one half hour before and after the services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the charity of your choice.
