Naomi Lee Burke, 80, of Lee’s Summit, formerly of Independence, MO peacefully passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at her home. Memorial Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Cremation with private inurnment in Walnut Creek Cemetery, Wellsville, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke’s Hospice. Naomi was born March 26, 1928 in Wellsville, KS to Clyde and Esther (Jacoby) Zielsdorf. She was Baptist by faith and a charter member of the Women in Military Services for America. Mrs. Burke graduated from Ottawa High School in 1946. She proudly served as a Communication Specialist in the U.S. Navy W.A.V.E.S. during the Korean Conflict from 1949-1952. Naomi was honored by the State of Kansas Division of Aging for her volunteer work at the Ottawa (KS) Nutrition Site in 1978. Mrs. Burke was a civilian employee of the Federal Government for over 25 years. She also owned and operated a consignment shop in Independence, MO in the 1980’s. Naomi volunteered for Heartland SHARE from 1994 through 1998. She is survived by her daughters Cynthia D. Bridges, Arlene M. Driskell and husband Doug; grandchildren Ginger Chyree (Driskell) Birch and husband Michael, Rosie Lee (Driskell) Fyffe and husband James, Benjamin Robert Driskell, Jennifer Ruth Bridges, Thomas Patrick Bridges; one great-grandson Aaron Michael Bridges; brother Richard E. Zielsdorf; sister Ann Lizer and husband Earl. Naomi was preceded in death by her sister Ruth Marie (Zielsdorf) Young; brothers Clifford Allen Zielsdorf and John Franklin Zielsdorf; and one grandson John Marc Bridges.
