Denver E. Burkett, 78, of Independence, MO passed away Sunday, November 30, 2008 at The Fountains. A Firefighters Memorial Service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday December 6, 2008 at the International Association of Firefighters, Local 781, 320 E. Pacific Ave., Independence MO. Cremation with private burial. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Vitas Hospice. Denver was born November 27, 1930 in Kansas City, KS to Harvey and Cora (Davis) Burkett before moving to Independence, MO. He proudly worked for the Independence Fire Department for 36 years as a fire fighter, fire captain, district chief, and fire inspector. Mr. Burkett was a member of the local 781 union. He was an avid golfer and after his retirement worked as a marshall at the Rockwood Golf Course. Denver also loved to play cards with many of his high school friends. Mr. Burkett enjoyed working with children and coached pop warner football, YMCA basketball and queen city baseball. He served in the U.S. Marines and was a graduate of William Chrisman High School. Denver is survived by his son Kent Burkett and wife Jan; his beloved grandchildren Taylor and Tanner Burkett; sister Betty Scott. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Alberta (Chrisman) Burkett; daughter Marcy L. Burkett; brothers Don and George; sister Sandy.
