Roberta Burner

Roberta Maxon Burner, 98, departed this life on November 18, 2010, in Lee’s Summit, Mo. She was born near Ludlow, MO on May 16, 1912, the daughter of Robert and Cassie (Stone) Bryan.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Neil Bryan, a sister Ruth Edie, and niece Rita Edie. Her first husband Wallace Maxon died in 1983, her second husband, Walter Burner died in 1994.

Roberta graduated from Northwest Missouri State, Maryville, MO. She taught in Missouri schools for 33 years, retiring from the Independence School System. She moved to John Knox Village, Lee’s Summit, MO, in 1995. At the time of her death she was a member of the Pavilion Church at JKV, the Beauceant Lodge, Kansas City, MO., (where she was Past-President), and the Missouri Retired Teacher’s Association.

She is survived by nephews, Robert and Ronald Bryan, niece, Brenda Muntz, and step-children, Mrs. Virginia Thomas, Clifford Maxon, Ronald (Betty) Maxon, William (Marceda) Maxon, Charles (Edie) Maxon and Barbara Burner. Also surviving are 12 step-grandchildren, 22 great step-grandchildren and 14 great great step-grandchildren, and 5 great nieces and nephews.

Private funeral services will be held at Carson-Speaks Home; 1501 W. Lexington Ave. Independence, MO with interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, 701 S. Noland Rd. Independence, MO, beside her husband Wallace. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army, 3637 Broadway, Kansas City, MO 64141, would be appreciated.
