Robert H. Burnup, 94, of Independence, MO passed away on March 12, 2013. He was born July 23, 1918 in Rosedale, KS to Robert and Pearl Burnup. He graduated from Raytown High School, then served in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of Captain. He established Burnup Equipment Company in Independence, MO in 1952 and ran the business until his passing. His interests included graphoanalysis, gardening and being involved with his sons’ Boy Scouts troops. He loved traveling around the world with his loving wife of 45 years. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Bob was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Bob and Nina met at CMSU in a music appreciation class. They accompanied one another to the live theatre as a class assignment. They continued to work on these “assignments” for many years until Bob’s passing. They were members of the Theatre League, season ticket holders of American Heartland, New Theatre and Quality Hill Theatre. His loving relationship with Nina was an inspiration to all. Their admiration for one another was unequaled. They thoroughly enjoyed every minute they spent together. Bob is survived by his wife, Nina; sons, Mark Burnup of Raytown, Chris Burnup of Independence, MO (and his children Tabitha and Christopher); daughter, Larissa Evans (Jeff) of Blue Springs, MO (and their children Haylee and Chase). He also leaves behind three daughters, Brenda Phillips of Lee’s Summit (and her children Robin, Shannon and Kristen), Linda Dobson (John) of Independence, MO (and her children Mike, Mark and Mitch) and Cindy Wilkinson of Texas. Bob had fourteen great grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 1-2:00 p.m. followed by a 2:00 p.m. service on Friday, March 15, at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO. A private family graveside service will follow at Concord Cemetery near Bates City, MO. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
