Hugh M. Burton, Jr., 79, of Independence passed away Tuesday, March 3 in Independence; having had a rather rough go with Parkinson’s Disease. Services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, March 7 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Indep.; burial to follow at Mt. Washington Cemetery. A visitation will be from 6-8:00 PM Friday at the Chapel. The family suggests contributions be made to the University of Kansas Medical Center, Dept. of Neurology MS 2012, 3599 Rainbow Blvd., Kansas City, KS 66160 for Parkinson’s Research.
Hugh was born in Clinton, MO on April 25, 1929 to Hugh M. Burton Sr. and Jonah Silvereta (Tally) Burton. He was a 1947 graduate of Clinton High and then attended classes at Warrensburg College. He taught school at Diamond, MO and at Collins, MO. He also served in the Missouri National Guard as a Sergeant. After moving to Kansas City, he worked for the American Alloys Co. where he ran the quality control lab. He then worked for many years as a manufacturers representative, first with the Kirk Campbell Co. and then as a partner with Midwestern Engineered Equipment.
Hugh was preceded in death by his parents and brother Glen Burton of Pittsville, MO. He is survived by wife Virginia of Independence; brother Wayne; sons: Bruce of St. Louis, MO, Tom Prall of Bakersfield, CA, Brian of Grain Valley, MO and Keith of Sugar Creek, MO; daughters: Deborah of Independence, MO and Brenda of Kansas City, MO; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. He will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him.
