David Bushakra Jr

David James Bushakra, 64, of Independence, MO peacefully passed away Friday, July 8, 2011 in his home, surrounded by his family. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 12 in the chapel, where a Jester’s Rose Ceremony will take place at 8:00 p.m. Cremation to follow Wednesday services. David was born March 14, 1947 in Kansas City, MO to David James and Bertha Marie (Rennick) Bushakra. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam. In 2003 David retired from the Independence Missouri Fire Department as District Chief and Captain after 30 years of service. He served the Ararat Shrine Temple in many positions during the last 18 years, and was the Assistant Rabban at the time of his passing. David will always be remembered as “Captain Attitude,” however, he was the one everyone called when they needed help or support. He always cared more for his crew, friends, and family more than himself. He will be greatly missed and loved by all those that were blessed to know him. David is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Molly (Gibbons) Bushakra, children Jennifer Grissom, Janette Rowe (Scott), Joseph Bushakra (Amy); grandchildren Matthew, Hanna, Lauren, Joseph and Caleb; sisters Georgia Stillwell (Bob), Frances Kessler; brothers-in-law Larry Gibbons, John Cooper; and by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents David and Bertha; sister Annette Cooper.
