Florine Annette Butterfield, 87, passed away on Sept. 2, 2015 with her loving family by her side. A memorial visitation will be held from 6-8:00pm Thursday, Sept. 10, at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington in Independence. A memorial service will be held at 10:00am Friday at the chapel, with inurnment at Floral Hills Cemetery.
Florine was born on January 10, 1928, to Fred and Laura (Brunette) Jones in Kansas City, MO. A lifelong area resident, she graduated from East High School and attended the KC Art Institute on a Hallmark Scholarship. She began her career at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital and upon retiring went to work for the IRS. Florine’s passions in life were many, and included the arts, travel, cooking, and reading. She was also a very talented painter.
Survivors include son Scott Butterfield and his partner, Peter Sellers, son Charles Butterfield and his wife, Nancy; three adored granddaughters: Shannon Newport and her husband, Jesse, Hilary Butterfield, and Emily Butterfield and her partner, Brandon Seevers; four great-grandchildren: Arabella, Aidyn, Paisley, and Talyn.
She was preceded in death by her husband of forty years, George Butterfield, and her good friend, Major James Morgan. Contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or Wayside Waifs in her honor.
