Helen Calahan

Helen Elizabeth Calahan, 85 of Independence, MO went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, February 26, 2008. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 1, 2008 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Norfleet Baptist Church. The family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m., until service time Saturday at the chapel. Helen was born June 15, 1922 in Kansas City, MO to Delbert and Lillian Vader. She was a lifelong area resident graduating from Central High School. She worked as an accountant for a number of years until she retired in 2005. Helen enjoyed quilting, needlework and playing the organ. She was very involved in her son’s scouting and school activities as well as church. She was married to Jack C. Calahan in 1946, he passed away in 1995. Survivors include; 3 sons, Chris Calahan and his wife Bunnie of Fruitland, ID, Paul Calahan and his wife Barbara of Independence, MO and Walter Calahan and his wife Pat of Lee’s Summit, MO; a brother, Orlan Vader of Joplin, MO, 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews cousins and friends. Her family wishes to thank friends and caregivers who ministered to her over the past 2-½ years while she was at Golden Living Center.
