Frank Joseph Calovich, 84, resident of Independence and formerly of Sugar Creek, MO, passed away, Sunday, June 7, 2009 at the Villages of Jackson Creek in Independence. A Rosary will be recited at Carson-Speaks Midtown Chapel at 6:00 pm Wednesday evening, followed by visitation until 9:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Cyril’s Catholic Church, Sugar Creek, MO on Thursday June 11, 2009 at 10:00am. Burial with full military honors will follow at Mound Grove Cemetery, Independence, Mo.
Frank was born August 31, 1924 in Sugar Creek to Frank and Katie (Novosel) Calovich and graduated from N.E. High School in 1942. Frank proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He then worked for Standard Oil Company in Sugar Creek, Mo as a carpenter and later as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service until retiring in 1990 after 30 years of service.
He was a lifetime member of St. Cyril’s Catholic Church, a Charter member of VFW Post 3976, and board member of the Friends of Sugar Creek. Frank enjoyed gardening, bird watching, baseball and keeping everyone on their toes with his quick wit and humor.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Wilma (Gaulter) Calovich in 1981, and his older brother Mike Carr in 2007. Frank was married to Theresa (Lucas) Brestogianis in 1996. He is survived by his wife Theresa. Other survivors include two daughters, Carol Sheehan (John) of Independence and Lisa LeMay (Frank) of Sugar Creek; a brother, George Calovich (Betty) of Raytown; a step son, John Brestogianis (Toni); a step daughter, Jamie Greer; a granddaughter, Katie “Kata” LeMay; step-grandson Joshua Greer and several nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
