Mary Margaret Campbell

March 4, 1921 — April 26, 2015

Mary Margaret Campbell, 94, passed away at The Groves in Independence on April 26, 2015 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday April 30th at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St, in Independence. A private family graveside service will be held on Friday.

Mary was born March 4th, 1921 in Springfield, MO to Euell (Earl) and Virginia (Midge) Rigg. She graduated from Central High School and moved to Ft. Leonard Wood where she met Robert (Bob) Campbell and later to Kansas City where she and Bob were united in marriage March 18th, 1945 from which their son David was born. She worked at TWA, Sears Roebuck, ARMCO Steel, and retired from Sheffield Steel in 1983.

Mary loved crafts, decorating for Christmas, traveling, working in the yard, and preparing the best roast beef, lasagna, cranberry frozen salad and pies. For many years she volunteered cooking for the Laurel Club, the gift shop at Independence Regional Health Center, Board of Elections and Pleasant Heights Womens Dept. She was a member of the Independence Young Matrons and the Community of Christ Church.

She was preceded in death and will be rejoicing to once again be reunited with her husband, Bob; infant daughter, Deanna; both of her parents; sister, Merita Cox; and brother Joseph Rigg. Mary leaves behind her cherished memories with her son David and wife Vicki; grandson Tyler Campbell; granddaughter Ashley Campbell; and nieces.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Groves for providing 12 years of kind, patient and loving caregiving. Also they wish to thank the Groves Hospice for their guidance and support during her final hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Groves Hospice or Rosewood Activities Program.
