Richard Frederick Campbell, 69, of Independence passed away on Friday, October 4, 2013 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City.
A celebration of life service will be at 7:00 PM, Thursday, October 10, 2013, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. The family will greet friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM., on Thursday, October 10, 2013, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Great Plains SPCA, 21001 Missouri 78, Independence, MO 64057.
Richard was born on March 1, 1944, in Kansas City, the son of Joseph Frederick and Lillian (Griswold) Campbell. He was a police officer for the City of Independence for 19 years until his retirement. He was a member of Word of Life and Light of His Glory Ministries and Homeland Security.
Richard loved his family, animals, football, NASCAR, hunting, joking with his friends, ice cream and especially family dinners. He was active in his community and loved to help others.
He is survived by his wife, Lyla Campbell, of the home in Independence; three children, Jana Slocum and her husband Scott, Buckner; Richard Campbell and wife Cristi, Cameron; Lynn Bouchard and her husband Chris, Oak Grove; nine grandchildren, Jared, Erin, Kaylin, Kylie, Tyler, Karli, Brynn, Samantha, and Crislyn; his first wife and mother of his children, Barbara Campbell, Oak Grove; and his beloved dog, Brucey Bear.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother.
