Rodolfo “Rudy” Cantú Arroyo, Ph.D.

Rodolfo “Rudy” Cantú Arroyo, Ph.D., 69, passed away on November 19, 2022. Rodolfo was born on July 31, 1953 in the city of Monterey in Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Santiago Arroyo and Socorro Cantú. He obtained his PhD from the Illinois Institute of Technology and spent his career as a multilinguist in metallurgical engineering. On November 18, 1989, Rudy married the love of his life, Angela Ortiz, embarking on an adventure that brought many happy memories to their lives. He was a dedicated family man, full of integrity, and devoted much time to his wife and son, Emmanuel. Often on Saturday mornings, he would take his family to the local theater and together they would watch matinee movies, from classic cartoons to anime, classic films to blockbusters, including his favorites, Jaws, Star Wars, The Exorcist, and Indiana Jones. This also served as a hearty breakfast of popcorn and cola; a deviation from the cultured palate he had refined when work would take him abroad. While separated from his family on these trips, Rudy enjoyed being introduced to new cultures, especially the local cuisine. Though described by some as a foodie, these delicacies could not entice him to stay away from his favorite place in the world: home with his family. When not traveling or enjoying the local cinema, Rudy enjoyed his time playing games and assembling puzzles. His favorite hobby, however, was reading and he could often be found hiding away in peace exercising his imagination, immersed in the well-crafted genre of science fiction. His quick wit and unexpected zingers will be remembered for years to come by all those whose lives he touched. Rudy is survived by his wife, Angela Arroyo of Independence, Missouri; Son, Emmanuel Arroyo of Independence, Missouri; brother, Javier (Martha) Arroyo of Chicago, Illinois; nephew and niece, David Anthony and Amanda Michele Arroyo and many other special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Santiago Arroyo and Socorro Cantú, as well as two beautiful souls who are now rejoined by father in heaven. The family will be holding private services at a later date. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.speakschapel.com (Arrangements: Carson-Speaks Chapel (816) 252-7900).
