Carl Lee Gross Jr., a devoted family man and patriarch, passed away unexpectedly on May 29, 2026, in Independence, Missouri. Born on June 7, 1948, in Long Beach, California, Carl’s life was marked by his generous spirit, quick wit, and positivity. He was the proud owner of the Water Key water works company, where his work ethic and dedication were admired by many.
Known for his infectious humor, Carl was a man who truly loved life. Those who knew him remember him for always showing up at family events, bringing joy and warmth to every gathering. His caring nature was reflected in his role as a Boy Scout leader for his sons' and grandsons’ troops. Carl was proud to accept a trophy after building a Halloween float for one of his troops, showcasing his creativity and commitment.
Carl took great pride in hands-on projects. He poured his heart and skill into the lakehouse he built by hand at the Ozarks, a place to create laughter and memories for his family for many generations to come. He was a jack of all trades, known for his ability to build or fix nearly anything himself. Carl was a fan of classic rock and loved enjoying those tunes while appreciating the simple beauty of nature around him. He also found joy in his local pool league at Side Pockets, where he not only played with enthusiasm but also taught his wife to join in the fun.
Throughout his life, Carl inspired many with his favorite saying: “Keep your eye on the sky,” a reflection of his commitment to keeping his family safe and to remain optimistic.
Family was Carl’s greatest accomplishment and source of pride. The love he held for his family shone in everything he did. He will be greatly missed.
Carl is survived by his beloved wife of over 35 years, Faye; children, Brian (Kurt), Pauline (Roger), Bridget (Mark); stepchildren, Steve, Janet, Dave (Lorna) and Laura; grandchildren, Courtland, Kaylin, Landon, Jeremy, Kendra, Katie, Samantha, Max, Jesse, Lucas, Jaxon, Dillon, Jace, Cierra and Jacob; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Carolyn and Virginia and numerous extended family members and friends.
