Carol Kay Scott

Carol Kay Scott, a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and cherished matriarch of her family, passed away on August 14, 2025, in Independence, Missouri. She was born on July 16, 1939 to Thurman “Otto” and Mary (Armstrong) Daniel, in Lockwood, Missouri.

A proud graduate of Greenfield High School, Carols heart remained anchored in her most cherished role as a homemaker, where she exhibited selflessness and dedication to her family. Through her nurturing spirit, she created a warm and inviting home that brought her loved ones together. She embarked on a career in retail later in life, working at Sears for 13 years.

Carol was known for her incredible down-home cooking. She took great joy in making things from scratch, turning every meal into a labor of love. A few of her most memorial dishes were the peach cobbler for birthdays and the cherry cheesecake dessert that highlighted every occasion. Family also looked forward to her beautifully decorated cakes. Her artistic talents were equally impressive, as she expressed herself through doodling and painting. Countless friends and family members were graced with her beautiful masterpieces, lovingly crafted and gifted from her heart.

Her impact extended beyond the walls of her home, as she dedicated herself to both her children and grandchildren's lives, becoming an active participant in their activities. Carol volunteered her time with organizations such as the PTA and served as a Den mother for Cub Scouts, where her kindness and commitment left a lasting impression on the many lives she touched.

Through the years, Carol remained a beacon of generosity, always willing to lend a hand or a listening ear. Her proudest accomplishment was her family, whom she loved deeply and unconditionally. Her legacy of love, compassion, and creativity will continue to inspire and live on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her.

Carol is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, James “J.T.”; daughter, Linda Henson (Bob); brother, William “Bill” Daniel; grandchildren, James Scott, Jacob Scott, Jessica Scott, Katlin Leonard, Danielle Henson and Robert Henson; 8 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Diana Whittaker and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Thurman and Mary (Armstrong) Daniel; son, Gene Scott; and sisters, Margaret Walters and Helen Ullrich.

A visitation will be held from 1-2pm on Wednesday, August 27th at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Mo. Her funeral service will begin at 2pm with burial to follow at Mt. Washington Cemetery.
