Francis Charles Carpenter, 90, of Independence, MO died in the home on Sunday, January 22.
Francis was born February 14, 1921 in Kansas City, MO. Francis was a life- long resident of Kansas City. He joined the Navy in 1942 during WWII. He was stationed in the South Pacific for 2 of his 4 year service in the Navy. Upon returning in 1945 he married Mary Lee Connelly on November 17, 1945. They were life Partners for over 70 years and celebrated their 66th wedding Anniversary in November 2011. Francis was employed as a Mechanic at Armco Steel and retired in 1981 with over 30 years. He was fortunate enough to retire at the age of 60. His hobbies after retirement was to buy and renovate homes with his sons. Francis and Mary were active in a square dancing club and occasionally would travel to participate in events. He had a passion for the stock market and loved to share his knowledge and expertise. His true passion and dedication was the love of his life and his family.
Francis was preceded in death by three grandsons, Ben Carpenter, Steven Fehr and Christopher Kuklenski. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend of 66 years Mary Lee Carpenter as well as his legacy of 11 children 7 boys and 4 girls: Chuck and Donna Carpenter, Carolyn and Anthony Ross, Greg and Marcia Carpenter, Tim and Vickie Carpenter, Teresa and Len Kuklenski, Paul and Maria Carpenter, Bob and Talena Carpenter, James and Tracy Carpenter, Janine and Jim Urness, Mike and Daria Carpenter and Patricia and Dan Fehr. His legacy will continue on thru his 27 Grandchildren. Matthew Carpenter, Michelle Lile, Tony Ross-Maddi, Christi Ryan, Nicole Musick, Ryan and Jonathan Carpenter, Brian and Emily Carpenter, Rebecca Mueller, Beth Malinowski, Julie Long, Tara Crownover, Stephen DeFeo, Anne and Alex Carpenter, James, Andrew, Joshua and Michael Carpenter, Jimmy Urness, Kevin, Jason and Jeff Carpenter and Adam, Mary and Robbie Fehr., and thru his 23 Great-Grandchildren.
A celebration of Francis’s life will be Thursday evening at Speaks Suburban Chapel; 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence MO. 64055, from 6-9 P.M. There will be a pray service at 7 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 27, at St. Mary’s Church; 600 N. Liberty St. Independence, MO., followed by graveside services at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Raytown MO.. The family requests in lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Parkinson Disease Foundation. Francis was a dedicated husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather and will be truly missed.
