David W. Carra 98, of Independence, MO, passed away February 25, 2011. He was born on October 23, 1912 in Section 9, Township 34, Range 13, Washington Township. Chautauqua County, Kansas on the Ike Farmer Place. David was the last survivor of 13 children born to Charles Frederick Carra and Emmy Heyde Carra. He went to school at Jayhawk and Ottercreek, and graduated from the Sedan, Kansas High School in 1930. He attended Business College in Wichita, Kansas in March 1931. Due to the economic conditions in the 30’s, he began farming at age 18 and farmed for 68 years. In 1941, he went to Canada, to visit a sister that was married and moved to Canada before he was born. He arrived in Canada on August 14, 1941, and while he was there, he met Irene A. Lamb and married on September 17, 1941. They raised four children: David E. Carra (deceased); Russell C.W. Carra of Wichita, KS; Judy A. Carra of Independence, MO.; Linda Nesbitt (Husband-David Nesbitt) of Tulsa, OK. His wife, Irene, passed away June 26, 1986. He stayed on the farm until he got sick in May 2004, and went to live with his daughter Judy. He is also survived by a Granddaughter Kelly Phillips; Grandson David E. Carra; two Great Grandchildren Brooke and Corbin Phillips, a loveable little daschund named Sissy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
