Ruth S. Carson, 75 of Independence, MO, passed away, Sunday, February 24, 2013 at St. Mary’s Manor in Blue Springs, MO. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow in Greenton Cemetery in Odessa, MO. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Friday evening at chapel. Donations may be made in her name to Outreach International. Ruth was born August 14, 1937 in Plainview, TX to Thomas Guy and Ora Lee (Forbis) Stansell. She graduated from public schools in Olton, TX in 1955 and later received a BA degree in education from UCM. She had worked as a Rehabilitation Specialist for the Higginsville Habilitation Center for 15 years until she retired in 2005. She enjoyed church work and was a very active member of the Community of Christ, Village Heights congregation where she was a priest and Sunday school teacher. She was married to John Raymon Carson on June 12, 1955; he preceded her in death in 1994. Survivors include; a daughter, Cyndi Christenson and husband Mark of Independence, MO; 2 sons, Clay Carson and his wife Careen of Dallas, TX and Ray Carson and his wife Leigh of Monticello, AR; a sister, Ann Carson of Weeping Water, NE; 8 grandchildren, Becky Gathright, Amber Murdock, Ashley Shomin, Tiffany Ward, Crystal Carson, Joshua Carson, Jake Carson and Cathrine Carson and 3 great grandchildren, Lena Shomin, Cora Shomin and Lily Shomin. She was preceded in death by a sister, Beth Joiner.
