Thelma Mae Cartmill, 85 of Independence, MO passed away, Friday, Sept. 23, 2011 at Rosewood Health Center. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011 at the Speaks Buckner Chapel. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday evening at the chapel. Donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Thelma was born August 18, 1926 in Sioux City, IA to Harold and Beulah (Mercer) Firdig and has been a longtime area resident. She had worked in housekeeping for the Buckner School Dist. for a number of years until her retirement in 1996. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading the Bible. She was a member of the Buckner United Methodist Church. She was married to James Cartmill on June 6, 1948. He preceded her in death on August 16, 2002. Survivors include; a granddaughter, Tara Nichols of Independence, MO; a great grandson, Jesse Nichols of Independence, MO and her dearest friend, Jodie Estes of Independence, MO.
