Gene Caruthers, 84 of Kansas City, KS passed away, Monday May 23, 2011 in Parkville, MO at the home of his daughter, Joyce Lowe. Services will be 12:00 p.m., Thursday, May 26, 2011 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Avenue, Independence, MO 64052. The family will greet friends from 11:00 a.m., until service time Thursday at the chapel. Burial with full military honors will follow in Mt. Washington Cemetery. Gene was born July 29, 1926 in Biggs, OK to Martin and Mary (Teehee) Caruthers and has been a longtime area resident. He had worked as a machine operator for the GAF Company for a number of years before he retired in 1981. He also was a longtime self-employed roofer. He enjoyed racing cars, riding motorcycles, hunting, fishing, traveling refurbishing bikes for the Salvation Army and volunteered his time to many groups including the local police department. He proudly served in the US Navy during WWII and was stationed at Pearl Harbor. He was married to Pauline J. (Spencer who preceded him in death in 1997. Other survivors include; his children, Patty Asher (Roylee) of Kansas City, KS, Linda Walters of Kansas City, MO, Betty McNally (Jack) of Raymore, MO, Don Caruthers (Polly) of Kansas City, KS, Diana Tucci (Richard) of Kansas City, KS and Joyce Lowe (Aaron) of Parkville, MO; a brother, Morris Caruthers (Loraine) Boston, MA; 23 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Della Hawes, a son, Billy Caruthers and 4 grandchildren, Billy Cox, Ronnie Amos, Glenda Caruthers and Frank Wolfgeher.
