Charles L. Chaffee Jr., 70, of Lake Tapawingo, MO, passed away January 5, 2012 at home surrounded by his family.
He was born September 25, 1941 in Kansas City, MO, the son of Charles and Teresa Chaffee. He retired from KMBC Channel 9 in 2000 after 17 years as a Lighting & Set Engineer. He was a member of IATSE, the International Association of Theatrical Stagehand Engineers. Before Channel 9 he spent many seasons working at Starlight Theater and the Lyric Opera. He was an avid gardener and loved spending time on his boats.
He was preceded in death by his father Charles Chaffee, his mother Teresa Chaffee and his first wife Charline Chaffee.
Charles is survived by wife Betty Chaffee; brother and sister-in-law Don and Pat Chaffee; daughter and son-in-law Sherry and Michael Lear; daughter and son-in-law Sandy and Gary Bowlus; step-daughter and son-in-law Becky and Tony Abbate; step-daughter and son-in-law Debbie and Randy Hardin; 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Charles’s life will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Speaks Suburban Chapel; 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055. Burial to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
