Hazel Chaney

March 1, 1919 — May 3, 2008

Hazel Collings Chaney, 89, of Independence, MO passed away, Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Grace Gardens Manor Assisted Living in Leawood, KS. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at the Crescent Creek Community Church. Burial will be in Brooking Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m., until service time Wednesday at the church. Donations may be made to the Crescent Creek Community Church. Hazel was born March 1, 1919 in Pleasant Hill, MO to Frank W. and Mable (Day) Collings and has been a lifelong area resident graduating from Raytown high school in 1937. She spent her early life in Raytown and her father was a member of the first Raytown School Board. She enjoyed spending time with her family, church activities, sewing, traveling, and cooking. Hazel had worked as a wife and mother. She and her husband founded Chaney Steel Company 65 years ago, which is still in business. She was a member of the Crescent Creek Community Church, Raytown Historical Society and was a charter member of the Raytown Christian Church. She was married to Pharel Chaney on January 17, 1940, he passed away on June 17, 1984. Survivors include; their children, Carolee Cundiff and husband, James of McKinney, TX, Gene Chaney of Lee’s Summit, MO and Janice Ware and husband, Owen of Leawood, KS; 7 grandchildren, Jennifer, Sarah, Rebecca, Meredith, Stephanie, Ryan and Michelle and 5 great grandchildren, Caroline, Matthew, Elizabeth, Luke and Elyse.
