Wilma L. “Willie” Chaney, 93 Independence, MO, formerly of Phoenix, AZ, passed away Jan. 7, 2010. A memorial service will be held at 10 am, Thursday, Jan. 14, at The Fountains, 2100 S Swope Drive, Independence, MO. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, 727 N. Main, Independence, MO 64050.
Willie was born Oct. 2, 1916, in Rich Hill, MO. She graduated from University of Central Missouri with a bachelor’s degree. She married Forrest Chaney on June 23, 1940. They both worked for the Kinney Shoe Company for over forty years. They settled in Phoenix, AZ in 1959 and lived there until Forrest’s death in 2004 when Willie moved to Independence, MO. She was a member of the Eastern Star and many Auxiliary groups and volunteer organizations. She was a member of the church and was a huge basketball fan, holding season tickets to her beloved Phoenix Suns for over ten seasons.
Willie was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest Chaney, brother Bud Craig and niece Candy Craig. She is survived by nephew Gary Craig and wife Donna, Mayview, MO; eight great nieces and nephews and fourteen great-great-nieces and nephews.
