Charles Edward Naught, known to some as “Charlie,” 82, of Lee's Summit, Missouri, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026. Born on July 2, 1944, in Wakenda, Missouri, Charles lived a life defined by kindness, generosity, and an unwavering love for others. Charles enrolled in ROTC in high school and enlisted in the Army as soon as he graduated. He became a marksman and spent his military service stateside.

Charles had a gift for creating beauty with his hands. An accomplished woodworker, he spent countless happy hours in his basement workshop. Among his favorite projects were handcrafted wooden toys, which he lovingly carved and donated to hospitals, hoping to bring comfort and joy to young patients and their families.

He also found peace and satisfaction in tending his garden. Charles took great pride in growing grapes and nurturing beautiful rose bushes, and he was especially known for his carefully tended compost mulch—a labor of love that reflected his appreciation for patience, hard work, and the simple rewards of nature.

In Charles’ free time, he enjoyed traveling and found endless inspiration in the majestic mountains of Colorado, and also enjoyed a trip to Hawaii. At home, he could often be found enjoying a classic old Western.

Those who knew Charles will remember his gracious spirit and ever-present smile. He had an extraordinary ability to make others feel welcome, valued, and loved. Kind, generous, and compassionate, Charles led with his heart in every aspect of his life. His quiet acts of service and genuine concern for others left an enduring mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

One of the greatest blessings of Charles’ life was meeting the love of his life, Jane. Their story began with an introduction at the RLDS World Conference. Though separated by distance for a time, their love only grew stronger. During one memorable trip to Jane's home state, Charles asked her to marry him. Together they began their life in Sugar Creek, Missouri, building a marriage filled with devotion, partnership, laughter, and unwavering love.

Charles and Jane were members of The Community of Christ Liberty Street congregation, where both were regular attendees. Charles was ordained to the office of Deacon and participated in many worship services.

Charles leaves behind a legacy not measured by accomplishments alone, but by the countless lives he touched through his generosity, gentle spirit, and selfless love. Whether through a handmade toy, a flourishing garden, a warm conversation, or a simple smile, he made the world a better place.

Charles’ passing is preceded by his parents, Charles and Kathleen Naught; his beloved wife, Jane Naught; their son, Patrick Naught; his brother, Melvin Naught; and his sister, Charlotte Albert. His legacy of love lives on through his daughter, Diana Naught; his sister, Patsy Pendergraph; his sister-in-law, Karen Gann; his sister-in-law, Gladys Naught; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
