Samuel Ned Charles, 87, of Independence, MO, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at his home. A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Monday, April 27th at Carson-Speaks Chapel. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel. Inurnment will be at Mt. Washington Cemetery at a later time.
Ned was born March 3, 1928 in Fortuna, MO, a son of Zora and Faye (Wright) Charles. On June 4, 1948 he was united in marriage to Lois (Petree) and together they raised two sons. Ned proudly served in the U. S. Navy from 1946-1948. He later returned to serve in the Army Reserves from 1955-1958. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service carrying letters of love and value to the community for 30 years until his retirement in 1988. Ned enjoyed wood working, travelling, and gardening. Ned was a faithful Christian man who served as a deacon at Beverly Hills Baptist Church where they were members for 20 years. He also served as treasurer and as a choir member. He is currently a member of Baptist Temple Church. His family remembers him as a talented craftsman who helped build their homes, a hard working father and provider, and a loving grandfather. Ned will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by wife, Lois of the home; son, Randy Charles of Kansas City, MO; son, Rick Charles (Pamela) of Blue Springs, MO; grandson, Patrick Charles (Alicia) of St. Louis, MO; grandson, Len Charles (Grace) of Blue Springs, MO; great granddaughters, Adrianna, Claire, and Eleanor; twin brother, Ted Charles (Irene) of Overland Park, KS; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
