David Alan Childers

David Childers, 59, of Independence, MO passed away November 3, 2015. Graveside Inurnment will take place 2 pm Tuesday, November 10, 2015, with full Military Honors at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. David was born on July 9, 1956 in Fayette, MO to Eugene and Dorothy (Frevert) Childers. David moved with his family to Independence in 1958. After graduating from Truman High School, David joined the Navy. He was assigned to USN MCB Four where he received decorations for Marksman M-16 rifle, Battle “E” best of type FY 79, and the Navy Expeditionary Medal. He enjoyed building hot rods, gardening, shooting pool, and throwing horseshoes. His love of the water extended beyond the Navy, he enjoyed walks on the beach and fishing. Survivors include; parents Eugene and Dorothy Childers; brothers Gary Childers, Ron Childers and wife Sandy, Don Childers and wife Janice; sister Judy Skaggs and husband Pat; several loving nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or Cancer Society in his memory.
