Geneva Helen Childress, 68, of Independence, MO peacefully passed away Friday, August 7, 2009 at her home with her family by her side. She was a devoted wife, mom, nana and friend. Geneva loved spending time with family, especially with her grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 14, 2009 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service from 1-3:00 p.m. in the chapel. Cremation. Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care. Geneva was born September 25, 1940 in Stotts City, MO to Lavern and Clara (Wuellner) Schnake. She graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1958. Geneva was united in marriage on June 7, 1958 to Ronald Childress. They enjoyed 51 years of happiness together and made their home in Independence for 42 years where they raised one son and three daughters. Mrs. Childress is survived by her husband Ronald; daughter Tammy Argetsinger and husband Brian, son Craig Childress and wife Teresa; daughters Melissa Place and husband Gene, and Marine Sgt. Tara Bachman; eight grandchildren Brandon and Brooke Argetsinger, Katelyn Childress and Alexandra Cox, Sterling, Madison, and Carissa Place, and Haley Bachman. She is also survived by three brothers LeeRoy Schnake and wife Sharon, Leon Schnake and wife Rene, Harlan Schnake; and two sisters Allene Roach and husband Eddie, and Peggy Short and husband Terry; she is also survived by over 40 nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Geneva was preceded in death by her bother David and two sisters Lois Baker and Ruth Johnson.
