Clarence "Gene" Eugene Harvey

Clarence Eugene Harvey, of Buckner, Missouri, passed away on September 23, 2023. He was 99 years old.

Clarence was born on August 6, 1924, at Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri to Pauline and McKensey Harvey.

He lived and worked in Kansas at Standard Laundry and Sheffield Steel. He joined the Army at 18 years old. During World War II, he spent time in England, France, Germany, Holland, and Africa. On August 6, 1945 (his birthday), the first bomb was dropped. At that time, he was sent home. In November of 1945, he was honorably discharged. Upon his return to Kansas City, he met and married Lavern. From their union came a son; Ronald Harvey. Clarence and Lavern later divorced. In 1948, Clarence met Florence Townsend and they married on October 13, 1949. Together they had three children; Patricia, James, and Paula. Clarence owned and operated gas stations, and dump trucks, and had his own construction company; Harvey Construction. In 1982, he retired and moved to the Lake of the Ozarks. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, making wood crafts, and helping his neighbors and friends. In June of 2022, Clarence moved back home to live with his daughter, Paula.

Clarence was preceded in death by his wife; Florence Harvey, and his parents; McKensey and Pauline. He is survived by his four children; Ronald Harvey (Barbara), Patricia Farber (Steve), James Harvey, and Paula Bushart (Paul), as well as 13 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great grandchildren.

The family will greet guests at a visitation at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 29, 2023, at Speaks Suburban Chapel (18020 E 39th St. Independence, MO 64055). The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m., followed by a graveside service at Concord Cemetery at 3:30 p.m.
