Arlone Esther May Cockburn, 89, of Independence, MO, passed away, Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at Centerpoint Medical Center. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 18, 2009 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel. Burial will be in Mt. Washington Forever Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday evening at the chapel. Donations may be made to St. Matthew United Methodist Church 2415 R.D. Mize Rd. Independence, MO 64057. Arlone was born June 15, 1919 in Hilltop, KS to Joseph and Anna (Kraus) Doan. She graduated public schools and received her degree in nursing from Penn Valley College. She had worked as a Registered Nurse for KU Medical Center and later for MCI for a number of years before she retired in 1984. She enjoyed reading, quilting, painting and ceramics. She was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church. She was married to Thomas H. Cockburn, Jr., he passed away on December 3, 2001. Survivors include; a daughter, Lucia Lanpher and her husband Gerald of Independence, MO; a son, Thayer G. Nelson and his wife Joan of Olsburg, KS; 5 grandchildren, Lisa Hatt (Mike), Michael Oziomek (DiAnna), Carole Lewis (Dave), Andrew Nelson (Kristin) and Jenna Nelson and 8 Great grandchildren, Rachael, Lacey, Shannon, Maddy, Kate, Sofe, Brody and Hadley. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, George Doan.
