Woodrow W. Cole, 91, of Independence, MO passed away Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Centerpoint Medical Center. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 18, 2010 at the First Baptist Church of Independence, 500 W. Truman Rd., Independence, MO 64050. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., Monday, prior to the service at the church. Burial in Blue Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the church. Woodrow was born in Independence, MO on February 9, 1919, a son of George A. and Ruby (Crystal) Cole. He spent many of his formative years living with his uncle and aunt, Mr. And Mrs. James W. Cole, at their home on Crackerneck Road in Independence. He completed basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and served as Staff Sergeant with the 6th Infantry Division in the Philippines during WWII. Except for his Army service, he spent his entire life living in eastern Jackson County. Woodrow worked at the Automotive Supply Co. in Independence for nearly 40 years and was co-owner of the business from 1959-1982. He was a member of the church for more than 50 years and served in a variety of capacities, including Sunday School Teacher and Deacon. His loving wife of sixty years, Florence G. Cole, passed away in January of this year. Woodrow leaves many friends and loved ones, including his son and daughter-in-law Robert and Deborah Ann Cole, and his cousin Mary E. Swihart, all of Independence, MO; and a niece, Mrs. Shirley White of Overland Park, KS.
