Georgine D. Coleman, 98, Lee’s Summit, MO, formerly of Holton, KS, passed away Dec. 9, 2013. A memorial service will be scheduled in Holton at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the Coleman Scholarship Fund at the Evangelical United Methodist Church, 227 Pennsylvania Ave., Holton, KS 66436.
Georgine was born April 21, 1915 in Birmingham, KS to George and Anna (Longnecker) Decker, the youngest of nine children. After graduating from Denison High School, she taught for nine years in a one-room school house in Jackson County, KS. She was an active member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church for many years. She was also a member of the Tourist Club and P.E.O. Georgine was a wonderful cook and her family especially loved her homemade desserts. She also enjoyed playing the piano, playing cards, sewing and traveling.
Georgine was preceded in death by her husband, David Coleman, a long-time banker in Holton. She is survived by daughters Sara James and husband Charles, Golden, CO; Linda Suchman and husband Rodger, Lee’s Summit, MO; Pat Brown, Port Orange, FL; Bette Ross and husband Rod, Salt Lake City, UT; sister Edna Coleman, Valley Falls, KS; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
