Bettye Collins, 77, of Independence, MO passed away Monday, March 31, 2008. A memorial visitation will be from 1-3:00 PM, Saturday, April 5 at Carson-Speaks Chapel with a memorial service beginning at 3:00 PM.
Bettye was born June 22, 1930 to Walter and Ora Starkey. In the early 1950s she worked as a model and pin-up girl. She met her husband while being a dance instructor. Bettye and Alvin were married in 1955. She retired from Guys Potato Chips where she worked in packaging. Bettye enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and sharing afghans with all her family who were most important in her life.
Bettye was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin M. Collins Jr.; son, Sheldon Collins; sisters, Freddie Thompson, Alaska Starkey, and Irene Starkey; brothers, Duel Starkey, Joseph Starkey, and Riley Mansfield Starkey. She is survived by her daughter, April Johnston and husband Richard; three grandchildren: Quinten, Afton and Sable Biggs; two sisters: Helen Haines and Mary McClure; and two brothers: Dale Starkey and wife June and Jack Starkey and wife Shirley.
