Coral H. Combs, 92, Independence, MO passed away April 29, 2011. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm Monday, May 2, 2011 at East Independence Community of Christ, 823 S. Elizabeth St., Independence, MO 64056. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 6:00 pm. Private inurnment will take place at Mound Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Salvation Army, 14700 E. Truman Rd, Independence, MO 64050-5512.
Coral was born August 6, 1918 in Detroit, MI. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Philippines during WW II. He was a bricklayer by trade and was a member of the Bricklayers Union. He retired in 1992. He was a member of the East Independence Community of Christ and previously attended the Edgewood congregation and was a deacon in the church. He was also active in the Salvation Army early in his life, had been a Cub Scout leader and in the PTA when his children were in school. He enjoyed singing and playing the trumpet (he was a bugler in the Army) and gardening.
Coral was preceded in death by his wife Carlyne Combs, son Charles Edward Combs and sisters Jennie Mahurin and Ruth Cook. He is survived by daughter Carla Weisz; sons Carlton Combs and wife Susan, all of Kansas City, MO; Chan Combs and wife Linda, Harrisonville, MO; Chris Combs and wife Cindy, Hannibal, MO; Craig Combs and wife Patti, Shawnee, KS; Curtis Combs and wife Lou, Indianapolis, IN; Carter Combs and wife Jennifer, Lee’s Summit, MO; daughters Cherie Farley, Melbourne, AR; Cathleen Anderson and husband Mark; Charlotte Laizure and husband Rod, all of Independence, MO; brother Frank Combs and wife Virgie, Dearborn Heights, MI; twenty grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
