Lee R. Conger, 94, died on Monday, December 19, 2011 at Rosewood Health Center. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2011 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO with cremation to follow. The family will greet friends from 1:00 pm until service time Thursday at the chapel. Lee was born February 3, 1917 in Inman, NE, to Emery Lee and Sadie (Robinson) Conger. After graduating from High School and working in C.C. Camps during the Great Depression, he went to work for the Missouri Pacific Railroad, first in Omaha, NE, then in Kansas City, MO, retiring after 40 years as an engineer. He and his first wife had four children, all of who survive him, Beverly Mayher (Richard), Linda Kinne (Andy), Patti Lawrence and Richard Conger (Sharon). Lee was active in the Community of Christ (RLDS) Church where he served as an Elder. For many years he was a volunteer guide at the Auditorium and Temple. In 1972, Lee married Verva, who had six grown children, Les Goss, Dawn Smith, Wanda Singmaster, Jerry Goss, Julie Reed, and Steve Goss (who passed in 1992). Together Lee and Verva have 23 grandchildren and 54 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. For ten years they took several (5-7) grandchildren to church reunions. Upon retirement, Lee spent 17 years as maintenance supervisor of the Community of Christ Church at 43rd & Blue Ridge, which included lock-up every night. He was always ready to serve as a volunteer and spent many years as a Hospital Chaplain and as Chaplain at The Groves Nursing Home. He also served as Chaplain at his Railroad Retirement monthly meeting for many years. In lieu of flowers, donations to Outreach International.
