Francis Coogan

March 26, 1922 — August 9, 2009

Francis Michael Coogan, 87, of Lee’s Summit, MO, passed away, Sunday morning at his residence. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 13, 2009 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial with full military honors will follow in Resurrection North Cemetery. There will be a rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday evening followed by family visitation until 8:00 p.m. at the Carson-Speaks Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Mid-America Chapter. Francis was born March 26, 1922 in Middletown, NY to John and Catherine (Clancy) Coogan. He spent his early life in New York graduating from high school in 1939. He then proudly served in the US Army during WWII in the 437th Troop Carrier Wing and later in the US Air Force. He received his BS in Accounting from CMSU and had worked as an auditor for the IRS for a number of years before retiring in the early 1980’s. He enjoyed golfing, croquet and gardening. He was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was currently attending Our Lady of Presentation Catholic Church in Lee’s Summit. He was married to Pauline (Markley) in 1945; she preceded him in death in 1970. He later married Catherine Griffle and she also preceded him in death in 2005. Survivors include; a daughter, Mary Ann Quick of Gladstone, MO; a step son, Robert Griffle and his wife Deborah of Lee’s Summit, MO; 2 step daughters, Marilyn Hennis of Independence, MO and Betty Owen and her husband Henry of Minnetonka, MN; 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Jack Coogan and Joe Coogan.
