Opha P. Coombes, 90, of Independence, MO passed away September 13, 2010 at her home. Opha was born July 17, 1920 in Chandler, Oklahoma to George and Elda (Glascock) Jefferson. She was a dedicated employee for over 20 years for the Independence TG&Y store, where she was the head cashier. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 63 years, Amos H. Coombes; and three brothers, Glen Dale, Edwin N. and Donald L. Jefferson. She is survived by her four children, Edith A. Green and husband Gary, Robert E. Coombes, Karen S. Raymer and husband Keith, Debra L. Smith; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter. A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 16, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. Services at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at the chapel, with burial to follow at Mt. Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Association.
