Gerald Lee “Jerry” Cordon, 72, Independence, MO passed away Dec. 22, 2011. A memorial service celebrating Jerry’s life will be held at 7:30 pm, Tuesday, Dec. 27 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052; cremation. Visitation will begin at 5:30 pm before the service.
Jerry was born Dec. 5, 1939 in Nebraska and grew up in Corder, MO. He graduated from Corder High School in the Class of 1957. He was a lifelong employee of Ford dealerships in the area and retired from Thoroughbred Ford in 2004. Jerry was very active in the local racing scene as a mechanic in 1968 and then as a car owner until 2008. During his career he won track Championships at Riverside Speedway and Lakeside Speedway. As an owner with his son, Rod, in the driver’s seat, they won multiple track Championships at I-70 Speedway.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife Sandra Cordon. He is survived by son Scott Cordon and wife Kathy, Ft. Myers, FL; daughters Cindy Brown and husband Leon, Independence, MO; Karen Mitchell and husband Bill, Cross Timbers, MO; son Rod Cordon and wife Dawna, Independence, MO; companion Sue Sifford, Independence, MO; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
