Rickey Cotton, 88, of Independence, passed away Thursday, November 22, 2012. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 28 at Carson-Speaks Chapel; 1501 W. Lexington Ave, Independence, MO. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 29 at Bethel Baptist Church; intersection of 23rd Street and Mo 291, Independence, MO. Burial will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery. Rickey was born September 19, 1924, to George and Lillian (Pittman) Williams. She married the love of her life Orlan Cotton in 1941. After rearing her two sons she graduated from Research Medical School as an LPN. She worked for the hospital and later was care taker for her parents. Rickey loved her family. Often she hosted gatherings and especially enjoyed preparing delicious desserts. She was a perfectionist in numerous areas such as: knitting, crocheting, and needlepoint. Often, family and friends were the recipients of her extraordinary talents. Rickey was active in many groups including the Eastern Star, and groups associated with the Shriners such as: Needle Guild, and Ladies without Nobles. She also attended Bethel Baptist Church where she taught adult Sunday school for many years. Rickey will be forever missed by all who knew and loved her. Rickey is survived by her sons, Gary Cotton (Susan) of Sacramento, CA; Monte Cotton (Sonia) of Olathe, KS; grandson, Douglas Cotton (Lynda) and their daughter Reagan, all of Redondo Beach, CA; granddaughter, Sarah Cotton-DeBruin and her daughter Alexandra of Olathe, KS; and younger twin sisters Leta Beltz of Oak Grove, MO; and Reta Lowther of Garden Grove, CA.
