Wilma Jean (Inman) Cox, 79, of Independence, MO, passed away Sunday July 19, 2015. A memorial visitation will be held on Monday July 27, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Speaks Suburban Chapel.
Wilma was born on March 31, 1936 in Nixa, MO to Kenneth and Norma (Painter) Inman. She lived in several cities and states and ended up in Independence, MO where she graduated in 1954 from William Chrisman High School. She met her husband and married in 1958. When starting a family she stayed at home and was a big part of her family’s lives. She was PTA President during her daughter’s grade school years and helped with school parties and activities. One of her passions was to ensure that girls, including her daughters, received the same educational opportunities as boys. To that end she was excited about the passage of Title IX in 1972. Title IX is a landmark federal civil rights act that prohibits sex discrimination in education. She returned to work at Southwestern Bell in the early 1980’s and retired in 1999. She and her husband Don enjoyed collecting antiques and Aladdin Lamps and were members of the National Association of Aladdin Lamp Collectors. They enjoyed going to Vegas with friends and attending car shows with their classic car. She loved spending time with her grandchildren teaching them how to be silly and make cookies. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for them.
Survivors include husband, Donald L.
