Walter Wayne Crawford, Sr. 87, Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, MO.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. Independence, MO. Burial at Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Glendale Restoration Branch Church, 17803 Susquehanna, Independence, MO 64056.
He was preceded in death by his wife Wilma (Brewer) Crawford; three sisters; and one brother. He is survived by his daughter, Jane Alvested and her husband Jim; son, W. Wayne Crawford and his wife Laura; four grandchildren, Scott Alvested and his wife Tresina, Todd Alvested, Carrie Blackman and her husband Josh, Andrew Crawford and his wife Gina; great grand-daughter, Trinity Alvested and great-grandson, Samuel Blackman.
Wayne was born in Nov. 25, 1921 in Independence. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. He was employed with Independence Sanitarium and Hospital. Later, he moved to Costa Mesa, CA, and became a machinist and research model maker. In 1968 he moved back to Independence where he retired from Bendix Corporation in 1984. He was baptized a member of the RLDS church and served as a lay minister for 69 years. He was a student of the scriptures and loved sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.
