Nellie Crenshaw, 93, was born on October 6, 1917 in Jackson County Missouri to George and Nina (Helm) Liddle. Nellie died at the Rehabilitation Center of Independence on April 29, 2011. She was married to the love of her life Chester E. Crenshaw on May 3, 1938. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brother and sisters and grandson, Patrick Crenshaw.
Nellie lived and worked in Independence all of her adult life. She was the first Unit Secretary at the former Independence Sanitarium and Hospital from which she retired after 18 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church for over 50 years.
Surviving Nellie are her son Gary Wayne Crenshaw and wife Sharon of Lee’s Summit and daughter Karen Earlene Anderson and husband Jim of Independence, 6 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. The service to celebrate her life will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Carson-Speaks Chapel followed by interment at Woodlawn Cemetery.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the caregivers at The Fountains of Greenbriar where she resided for 18 years and to the staff of the Rehabilitation Center of Independence and the team from Crossroads Hospice for their loving care in her final year.
