James William “Bill” Cross, 87 of Independence, MO, passed away, Monday, August 11, 2008 at Centerpoint Medical Center. Services will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, August 16, 2008 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Lobb Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m., until service time Saturday at the chapel. Bill was born March 14, 1921 in Kansas City, MO to William Henry and Caroline (Petring) Cross and was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1937 and attended Oklahoma A & M College. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Bill had worked as a self-employed contractor in Independence for a number of years before his retirement in 1990. He owned and operated Cross & Associates Construction. He was a very sociable person who enjoyed spending time with friends and barbequing with his family Attending both grandsons’ activities was a favorite pastime. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Sugar Creek. He was married to Betty Hubbard on June 25, 1955; she survives of the home. Other survivors include; a daughter, Kim Mullnix and her husband David of Independence, MO; a sister, Jolene Everly and her husband James of Independence, MO; 2 grandchildren, Steven Mullnix and Christopher Mullnix and a great grandson, Joshua Mullnix. She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Vaughn November 18, 1992
