Ray Cummings, Sr.

Ray passed away peacefully Sunday, May 24, 2009 at home surrounded by his family. Ray was born April 26, 1914 in Rosedale, KS to Ed and Minnie Mae Ellis Cummings. He worked at Lake City Ammunition Plant where he met his wife, Violet. He began selling Hoover vacuums door to door, and then owned his own business, Packaging and Shipping Supplies, in Wichita. The family moved to Kansas City in 1962. Ray traveled four states selling Inarco products to florists. After retiring they moved to Independence. He and Vi were active in the RLDS/Restoration church where Ray was a priesthood member. He cherished time spent at home with his family.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife Violet and son, Ray Cummings, Jr. He is survived by four children and their spouses: Ted and Joyce Cummings, Mel Cummings, Ed and Jane Cummings, and Beth and Bill Ruckman; daughter-in-law Susan Cummings; and their extended families.
A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 PM Tuesday, May 26 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence. Private burial services will be at Mound Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Kendallwood Hospice, 2908 NW Vivion Rd., KCMO 64150.
