Melba May Cummins, 91, Blue Springs, MO passed away Feb. 4, 2011. Services will be at 10 am, Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011 with the visitation beginning one hour prior to service time at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055. Committal services will be at 2:30 pm, Tuesday at Pennwell-Gabel Cemetery, 3616 S.W., 6th St., Topeka, KS. In lieu of flowers the American Heart Assoc., 6800 W. 93rd St., family requests contributions to the Overland Park, KS 66212-1461.
Melba was born June 21, 1919 in Oneida, KS and graduated from Oneida, High School. She lived in Topeka most of her life and worked in food service at Washburn University for twenty-five years. She was a member of the First Free United Methodist Church in Topeka where she enjoyed Bible Study and taught Sunday School in the nursery for many years. In her later years she moved to Blue Springs, MO and attended the First Christian Church of Blue Springs. Melba loved to shop, especially at J.C. Penney’s, and travel.
Melba was preceded in death by her husband Charles E. Cummins and granddaughter Sherri Jenkins. She is survived by daughters Shirley Jenkins and husband Bill, Blue Springs, MO; Mary Hayslip and husband Jim, Wellton AZ; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
